Winter Grit Bin Refill Schedule and Volunteer Call

June 3, 2026

Notice to all residents of Glenbrae:

As we prepare for the winter months ahead, the Community Council has confirmed the grit bin refill schedule and is seeking volunteers for the community snow warden scheme.

Grit Bin Refills

There are eleven grit bins located throughout the village, at key points including Main Street, Lochside Road, School Lane, the distillery entrance, and the hill road to Beinn Ghlas. Highland Council will refill these bins in October and again in January, or sooner if supplies run low.

Residents are asked to report empty or damaged grit bins to the Community Council so that refills can be requested promptly. Grit is intended for use on public paths and roads only, not for private driveways.

Community Snow Wardens

The Community Council is seeking volunteers to join the snow warden scheme. Snow wardens help clear priority paths during snowfall, particularly those serving elderly or vulnerable residents. Training and equipment are provided by Highland Council.

Last winter, six volunteers kept the paths to the village hall, the shop, and the primary school clear during three significant snowfalls. This made a real difference to people who would otherwise have been housebound. If you can spare a few hours during snowy weather, please contact the Community Council.

To volunteer or to report a grit bin, contact the Village Hall during office hours.
