Glenbrae Highland Games Returns for 47th Year

The Glenbrae Highland Games will return to the village playing fields on Saturday 15 August, marking the forty-seventh year of this beloved Highland tradition. Heavy events, piping, dancing, and a full programme of track and field competitions are expected to draw visitors from across the region.

A Full Day of Competition

This year’s programme features the traditional heavy events — caber toss, stone put, and hammer throw — alongside piping and drumming competitions judged by members of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. Highland dancing entries are up on last year, with competitors travelling from as far as Skye and Aberdeenshire.

The children’s races and the tug-of-war between Glenbrae and neighbouring Kinloch remain the most fiercely contested events of the day. “It is the one day when the whole glen comes together,” said Convenor Murdo Mackenzie. “Win or lose, everyone stays for the ceilidh afterwards.”

Food, Music, and Community

The village hall committee will run the tea tent, serving home baking and soup throughout the day. Brae Distillery will have a tent offering tastings, and the local craft gallery will display work from resident artists. Evening entertainment features a ceilidh with live music from The Brae Collection.

Gates open at 9:30 am. Entry is five pounds for adults, two pounds for children, with under-fives free. All proceeds go to the Glenbrae Community Fund.
