Glenbrae Young Farmers Shine at County Show

Members of the Glenbrae Young Farmers Club returned from the Highland County Show last weekend with an impressive haul of rosettes and trophies. The club, which has twenty-three members aged between fourteen and twenty-six, competed in livestock showing, stockjudging, and the ever-popular tug-of-war.

A Proud Performance

Eighteen-year-old Katie MacLeod took first prize in the young handler cattle class with her Jersey heifer, Bonnie. The club’s stockjudging team of Robbie Sinclair, Amy Cameron, and Gregor Stewart placed second overall, narrowly missing out on the top spot to a team from Inverness.

“I am so proud of every single one of them,” said club leader Catriona Stewart. “They have put in months of early mornings and late evenings working with their animals. To see them do so well against clubs three times our size — that says everything about the spirit of these young people.”

Building for the Future

The Glenbrae Young Farmers Club was reformed in 2021 after a gap of over a decade. It now meets fortnightly at the village hall and offers training in everything from tractor maintenance to public speaking. New members are always welcome, and no farming background is required — just an interest in the countryside and a willingness to get stuck in.
